One of the first pictures of prayer in the Bible comes in Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve disobey God, experience shame, and hide from him. But God does not wait for them to find their way back. He comes looking for them, calling to Adam, “Where are you?” (verse 9). God knew where they were and what they had done. But the question reveals something beautiful about the heart of God: he pursues his people in their brokenness, shame, and need. Prayer begins with God because relationship begins with God. He created humanity in his image to reflect him, represent him, and to be in a relationship with him.
That same invitation continues throughout Scripture. In Philippians 4, God’s people are told to let their requests be made known to him. Not because he is unaware of their needs, but because he is a loving Father who desires a relationship with his children. He knows what we need, and he welcomes us to him in prayer. So as you bring this week’s requests to the Lord, you are not praying to a distant or reluctant God but to the God who first comes near. Thank you for praying with us for our partners as they nourish growth among vulnerable children and communities in the name of Jesus.

Monthly funds sent for food purchases in Haiti are allowing students at Valley of Hope (above) to have lunch five days a week. It has been difficult transporting our food boxes safely within the country, so the extra funds have been a blessing to the children. “We were able to feed the kids for five days [a week] this month. Great impact has been made. Thank you so much for making that happen.” —Maxeau, Feed the Hunger partner in Haiti

“I am so grateful to God and to you because I know that my missionary team and I could not have done this work without you. With your companionship, we visited the Center of Grace orphanage, which houses 80 underprivileged children. They received 1 ton of rice, 300 kg of instant noodles, cookies, candy, and other necessities (above). Thank you so much. Your help is a shower of God’s blessings on the lives of these children.” —Feed the Hunger partner in Vietnam

Chris is distributing Bibles to high school students in northern Ghana who are from four tribes: Bimoba, Dogomba, Gurune, and Dagaare. The hope is that the students will share the Bibles with their family members in their own language. This outreach is part of his Local Language Project, which we’ll be helping with throughout the year.

Three hundred Bibles are being distributed in Cambodia (above) during our partners’ training of grassroots leaders. Leaders are also taking Bibles with them to distribute in their congregations. “We are grateful to Feed the Hunger for supporting us with a prodigious amount of funds for the distribution of the printed Word of God. I am amazed to see how God provides for needs like this.” —Feed the Hunger partner in Cambodia
