Weekly Prayer and Praise

May 10 – May 16

On Mother’s Day, we pause to honor the women around the world who go to great lengths to provide for those under their care. Many of the women our partners minister to and encourage are especially vulnerable because of their economic, social, and cultural situations. One such mother persevering in the face of great challenges is Rashida (pictured below right, during our partner’s visit). Our partner in Ghana told us about the love she has for her children and how she is trying to give them the best future she can.

Rashida is a resilient mother of six living in Kumasi, Ghana, under extremely difficult circumstances. Originally from the Northern Region, she migrated south in search of work and earned a living as a head porter, or kayayei. After being abandoned by her husband during pregnancy, Rashida became solely responsible for raising her six children, three of whom have cerebral palsy and developmental challenges. The family was living in a poorly maintained and unsafe structure, while also facing severe food insecurity.

In response, we provided relief support focused on shelter renovation and feeding assistance. Rashida’s living space was improved to ensure a safer, more stable, and dignified environment for the children. In addition, we provided feeding support to address immediate hunger and malnutrition, particularly among the children with special health needs. This critical short-term relief protected the wellbeing of the children and strengthened the family during a period of extreme vulnerability. Please pray that Rashida gets the capital she needs to start her charcoal business to support her six children.

Because of your prayers and support, Feed the Hunger was able to help Rashida with nutrition relief. Please continue to pray for the mothers like Rashida who serve daily without recognition, often in difficult conditions. And take time to thank God for all the mothers and mother figures in our lives, because we know that all good gifts come from the Lord.

Prayer Points for the Week

  • A home for children with cerebral palsy is now receiving our food in Ghana (below). The director was running out of food and was happy to learn about our partner Chris’s ministry, LIFE 3N Relief, and their willingness to provide food.
  • Funds are being sent to Pakistan to purchase a ministry vehicle! This van will enable our partners to travel safely, reach further, and transport Bibles.
  • Please cover the Feed the Hunger staff in prayer, as several need extra prayers regarding health.

I delight greatly in the Lord;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
