Hurricane Update 2018

UPDATE November 9, 2018

Dear Friends and Partners,

I want to take a minute and thank each of you who volunteered at one of our hurricane relief Packathons after two historic storms devastated the southeastern US. Below is a brief report of how the food you helped pack was used to bless others.

Hurricane Michael completely devastated the Florida panhandle. Feed the Hunger was able to travel to Tallahassee, Panama City, and other communities to experience firsthand the food relief efforts of our partners CitiIMPACT and Operation Barbeque Relief. Through these partnerships, Feed the Hunger food was prepared along with other items, and was served to tens of thousands of people daily. Mornings began with Salvation Army trucks lining up at food relief centers to be loaded with thousands of meals for the surrounding communities. Food was also delivered by volunteers—many who left their families and jobs and drove hours to help, using their own vehicles to make deliveries sometimes hours away. Remote communities were totally dependent on these groups to provide them with a daily meal.

Designated relief locations were mainly churches that had set up tents in their parking lots. At one location near Marianna, a man emerged from the woods after walking several miles. He said that his wife and children were back home and had run out of food. With tears streaming down his face, he shared tremendous gratitude for the food. Feed the Hunger received numerous testimonies of thanks, not only by those receiving the food, but also by the volunteers preparing and delivering the food. We know that it provided both physical nourishment and hope, and we could not have done it without our partners and your help!

To God be the glory!

UPDATE October 11, 2018

Dear Friends and Partners,

Our ongoing worldwide outreach coupled with relief efforts after Hurricane Florence has left us with insufficient food to help after Hurricane Michael. Despite this shortage, an initial shipment of 43,200 servings of food and 7,680 water bottles is awaiting final deployment from Atlanta. To help with the next round of hurricane relief, please give here to aid and relief.

If you’re local to us, please join us this coming Monday, October 15th, for a special HURRICANE RELIEF PACKATHON at the Burlington Airport Campus of The Lamb’s Chapel, 3539 S NC Highway 62. Over 200 volunteers are needed anytime between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Come when you can and stay as long as you want. Donations are welcome, but not required to volunteer. The meals packed this Monday will tentatively be dispatched the very next morning to the Florida panhandle to continue helping after this historic storm.

Serving with you,

UPDATE September 17, 2018

Greetings again, faithful partners,

Well, Hurricane Florence has now come and gone, and we are dealing with the crisis left behind. A wide swath of southeastern North Carolina and surrounding areas are facing severe flooding and damage.

In the midst of this, Feed the Hunger will be providing food through preexisting partnerships over the next few weeks. At this time, we are working with the NC Baptists at their mission camp near Fayetteville and Lumberton. We will also be working with our great friends at CitiIMPACT in the Fayetteville area to provide hot meals. And we continue to communicate with our partner churches in Wilmington to see if we can help there as well.

We are so grateful to those of you who gave and participated in the 50th Anniversary Packathon. That event has given us the food supply needed in this immediate phase of assistance. We are gladly accepting donations for our relief efforts, so you can give here. We are also accepting donations of water at our headquarters in Graham. If you can help in either or both ways, it would be much appreciated!

Our first truckload of food leaves tomorrow morning, so pray for safe travel and that we can be a blessing to many on behalf of the Body of Christ.

Serving with you,

UPDATE September 11, 2018

Hello, Friends and Partners,

As we continue to watch Hurricane Florence march toward the Carolinas and beyond by the weekend, Feed the Hunger is poised to respond with immediate relief efforts. Through our network of partnering organizations and churches, we are ready to join hands and help those most deeply affected in the name of Jesus, especially with our meal packets. Interestingly, our area is currently in the center of the projected path for this storm.

If you are interested in helping us with these efforts through your giving, please donate to our Aid and Relief Fund. This will help us respond in ways beyond food. We are also accepting donations of water at our headquarters: 323 West Harden Street in Graham, NC. Stay tuned for further email updates about other ways you can be involved. Please pray for wisdom for us as we respond to opportunities to help, for safe travel, and for our ministry to those in need during this crisis.

Serving with you,

Joseph Williams, CEO
