“Yeye” is a thirteen year old boy who came to the Daylight Children’s Home in Kenya in 2008. The name “Yeye” is a Swahili name that means “the odd one”. The other children in the home gave this name to him because he could not speak their language, he looked different from them and he had no shoes and very little clothing on.
Yeye came from a village far away in the jungles of Kenya. In this village he lived with his parents in a very small stick and mud hut. He loved his hut because this was his home where his mother lovingly fixed him meals and took care of him. Everyday his father would tell him stories of his family. He greatly enjoyed hearing his father tell funny stories and stories of great adventures. Like all the other boys in the village, Yeye took care of his father’s cows. Daily he would take the cows out to find green grass to eat and fresh water to drink. One day while he was caring for his father’s cows, cattle rustlers came and tried to steal them. Yeye, along with his mother and father, tried to stop them, but there were too many. Yeye’s mother and father were killed and Yeye ran so that they would not find him and kill him. For several days Yeye walked not knowing where to go or who could help him. A village chief found him and saw that he was hungry and took him to Daylight Children’s Home.
Today, Yeye has a new name, “Samson”. He really likes his name a lot and feels honored to have it. The children’s home takes wonderful care of him. They feed him and for the first time he goes to school. He is learning a new language, how to read and learning about the love of Jesus Christ.
Samson has learned so much since he has been at Daylight Children’s Home. He has made many new friends and he calls them his family. When Samson grows up he hopes to become a Pastor so that he can preach to the people of his area so that they can hear about Jesus Christ and stop their cattle rustling and killing.
Through your contributions to Feed the Hunger, Samson and so many other children that NDI cares daily for around the world are being feed physical food, receiving an education and receiving the knowledge of Jesus Christ. As you continue to give to Feed the Hunger, more children will be receiving a wonderful new life like Samson.
